Our new name

This spring, we will be known as Boston Building Resources, a new name combining the Boston Building Materials Co-op and the Building Materials Resource Center.

The growth over the years of the Boston Building Materials Co-op (which sells new building materials) and the Building Materials Resource Center (a nonprofit reuse center) has led to confusion about the organizations and their respective roles and relationships. Having one name—Boston Building Resources—will simplify and clarify. We are working on a combined Web site and will eventually have one phone number to make it easier to access our products and services.

Our mission is:

To be the place for homeowners and builders to make a positive impact on the community and the environment as they build and renovate their homes.

To provide high value/affordable building materials: new materials from our member-owned co-op specializing in kitchens, windows, doors, weatherization materials, and green products; and donated materials from our Reuse Center.

To provide hands-on workshops, expert advice, and technical assistance. We offer a “fair shake,” and the straight story, regardless of one’s need or experience level, going the extra mile to make sure that customers receive the information and materials they need to complete their projects successfully.

To offer special benefits to low- and moderate-income homeowners so they can repair and care for their homes affordably, allowing them to achieve a higher level of economic independence and improve their lives and neighborhoods.

To benefit the environment by diverting reusable materials from landfills and by providing energy-efficient, water-saving, and environmentally friendly materials.
